Forest Month - November 2016

Sun 6th November – Fri 26th November

This autumn Chithurst Monastery is again setting aside three weeks for a team of up to 8 resident laymen & junior monastics to work five days a week in Hammer Wood, mornings & afternoons (8 am to 4 pm with 2 hrs for lunch & break).

The Laymen who take part, will be given a room and have the opportunity to spend some time in one of the forest Kutis (forest huts usually reserved for monastics). They can join the community for morning and evening meditations, and will undertake the Eight Precepts.

The forest work includes such things as:

Collecting and stacking firewood (1st 8 days - Heavy work)
Tree planting and/or the care of recently planted trees
Clearing invasive trees in heathland glades & rides
Repairing steps, handrails etc. to maintain good access

We will meet on Sunday afternoon, 6th November, to introduce the forest month & plan the start of the work for Monday 2nd November. Please arrive on Saturday 31st October or Sunday 1st November before the meal (10.30 am). You are expected to stay the night on Friday 25th November and can leave after the main meal on Saturday 26th November.
